What does this site do?
HWTech Gift Labels lets you create time-locked QR labels for gifts. Scan the label any time and you will see a fun lock screen. When the unlock time is reached, the page reveals who the gift is for.
Do you have demo labels I can try?
Yes. You can try two built-in demo codes that show the lock screen and the unlock screen:
The demos are hard-coded and do not consume your plan limits. They simply show what a locked and unlocked gift looks like. The demo gift is set up as To: Buddy, From: Santa.
How does the unlock time work?
By default, each gift uses the configured unlock time (for example, Christmas morning at 8:00 AM). The device you scan with compares its local time against the unlock time. If it is too early, you see the lock screen. Once the device time is past the unlock time, the gift is shown.
Note: If someone changes the clock on their phone they may be able to unlock early. That is usually part of the fun and is not treated as a security boundary.
What information is logged when a QR is scanned?
When someone scans a QR code, the system records:
- Date & time of the scan
- The gift code and whether it was locked or unlocked at that moment
- Whether the code exists in the system
- The IP address and browser user agent
- Optional approximate location (latitude / longitude / accuracy) if the person grants permission
This data is used for basic diagnostics and for you to see when and where gifts were opened.
How long do you keep data?
Gift and scan data is automatically cleaned up over time. Gifts older than 180 days and scan logs older than 210 days are purged automatically. This keeps the database lean and avoids keeping detailed history forever.
Can I delete my account or data?
If you need an account or data removed sooner than the automatic cleanup, reach out through the Contact & Support page with the email address used on your account and a short description of what you would like removed.
Is this suitable for businesses?
Yes. The Unlimited plan is designed with small teams and businesses in mind and can be white-labeled behind your own domain. If you are planning to use this at larger scale, contact support for coordination and best-practice guidance.
